The Dumfries & Galloway Seniors’ Forum had been going for 22 years with more than 3,000 members from across the region and was one of the largest of its kind in Scotland. But because it relied on core funding from the local authority and with no guarantee of future council money, a decision was made to wind it up.
However, a new older people’s campaigning body has now been launched and the Dumfries and Galloway Over 50s Group hopes to fill some of the void left by the demise of the region’s Seniors Forum, particularly in pressing for better representation and improved services for older people.
The group meet in St Geroge's Church Hall, George Street, Dumfries and all individuals over 50 years old are welcome. The group have secured funding to take us forward into 2013 there are some exciting plans ahead and we need your support and ideas to assist us in moving forward. Annual Membership of ÂŁ5.00 can be made at the meeting.
